MILLA TWO NIGHTS ONLY AT IRIDIUM

JAZZ / CABARET VALENTINE TO THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF LOVE

Milla IlievaCabaret vocal sensation Ludmilla Ilieva brings her highly acclaimed jazz/cabaret show "Do Re Milla" to the Iridium Jazz Club, 1650 Broadway, for a special two-night stand on Thursday & Friday July 1 & 2 at 7P that is part of the venue's brand new series, "The Classic Night Club Hour." "Do Re Milla" premiered in August 2003 at Dillon's Supper Club and Cabaret where its six-week engagement earned lavish praise for the quick-witted country girl from Virginia descended from White Russian nobility. "Do Re Milla" features musical director Paul Trueblood on piano, and is directed by Margery Beddow. The series runs through August 15 and features some of New York's most intriguing jazz and cabaret talents.

Moving, as she puts it, from "one clef-hanger to another," this Juilliard-trained soprano frankly confides the emotional highs and lows of her life by selecting material that spans several styles and genres.  In songs as different as Sissle and Blake's "I'm a Great Big Baby," Croswell and Pockriss' "Bower Bird" and "Tear Joint" (one of two songs by musical director Paul Trueblood with lyrics by Jim Morgan), Ms. Ilieva sings with the Mermanesque abandon of a crowd-pleasing musical comedienne. In one of the happier interpretations of "Funny Valentine" you'll see (with an innovative jazz arrangement by Jeffrey Chappell) Ms. Ilieva indulges her vast romanticism.  This romantic streak gets several turns under the microscope -- in Harbach and Kern's "Yesterdays" for example, and, breathtakingly, in a medley pairing Mercer and Mancini's "Whistling in the Dark" with Dietz and Schwartz's "Dancing in the Dark."
